Makinde highlights Oyo’s energy sufficiency goals at BATN anniversary

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has emphasized that achieving energy sufficiency has been a primary focus of his administration.

He expressed the state’s willingness to collaborate with British American Tobacco Nigeria (BATN) to realize this objective during the 20th anniversary celebration of the BATN Ibadan plant.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Makinde also announced plans for the commissioning of a 1.4 megawatts solar plant, aligning closely with Oyo State’s energy sufficiency agenda.

He highlighted the establishment of an energy ministry under his administration, underscoring the significance of energy sufficiency in driving development initiatives.

Furthermore, Makinde revealed the imminent commissioning of an 11 megawatts power plant in the state, featuring a combination of gas-driven and solar-powered capacity. He disclosed plans to enact legislation establishing the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission, emphasizing the importance of state autonomy in governance.

Makinde praised BATN for its longstanding contributions to Oyo State’s development and acknowledged the company’s milestone achievements in Nigeria. He pledged to maintain a conducive business environment to foster continued growth and investment opportunities in the state.

The governor’s remarks underscored Oyo State’s commitment to energy sufficiency and its determination to foster partnerships with key stakeholders to achieve sustainable development goals.
