Mai Buni who ran under APC scored 317,113 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sheriff Abdullahi of the PDP who secured 104,259 votes

The incumbent Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni has been declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the 2023 governorship election in the state.

The State Returning Officer, Prof Umar Pate, made the announcement on Sunday at the INEC headquarters in Damaturu, capital of Yobe State.

According to Prof Pate, Buni who ran under the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 317,113 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sheriff Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who secured 104,259 votes.

The candidate of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) scored 14, 246 votes, while Labour Party (LP) scored polled just 428 votes.

Mai Buni, a former caretaker chairman of the APC, is returning as the governor of the North-East state for the second time.
