Plans are in top gear for the return of the Princess Mabel Madojiemu School Athletics Championships billed for September 29-30 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
The Championships meant for U15, is open only for secondary schools in Edo State.
It made its debut in 2019, but due to the Covid’19 worldwide pandemic, the second edition was kept on hold.
“We are back to contribute our efforts at athletics development, ” said Princess Mabel Madojiemu, former national 400m runner.
“The outcome of the last edition was very encouraging, but the worldwide health emergency in 2020 and 2021 prevented us from following up. But now we are ready to continue from where we stopped.”

She is being joined by Austin Poland Oritse in giving financial muscle to the championships and according to Princess Madojiemu, everything is being done to ensure a successful outing.
The championships have been approved by the Edo State government and letters have been sent to all schools for them to begin their preparations for the event.
