Lamidi Apapa has been suspended as factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) along with National Deputy Chairman (South) and other officials.
The LP hierarchy appointed acting national executive members to replace them and restore sanity to the fold, according to a statement signed by the party’s National Deputy Chairperson Ladi Iliya and Deputy National Secretary Kenedy Ahanotu.
They said the decision was taken at a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party in Asaba, which was attended National Working Committee (NWC) members.
Also in attendance were LP presidential candidate Peter Obi, state chairmen and secretaries of the party as well as LP National Assembly (NASS) members-elect, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The NEC reaffirmed and upheld the decision of the Akure convention which expelled former LP Publicity Secretary Arabambi Abayomi.
“NEC considered the disciplinary committee’s report which recommended the suspension of the former Youth Leader, Mr Anslem Eragbe, and recommended him for expulsion at the next national convention.
“Pending the next convention, NEC suspends Eragbe indefinitely.
“NEC also suspended the following National Working Committee (NWC) members: Lamidi Apapa, Alhaji Salem Lawal, Favour Reuben, Gbenga Daramola, Samuel Akingbade and Mohammed Akali,’’ the statement said.
The NEC constituted a disciplinary committee comprising LP National Youth Leader Kennedy Ahanotu; acting National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh; acting National Legal Adviser Edun Kehinde; acting Deputy National Secretary Rotimi Kehinde; and National Vice Chairman (South-South) Anthony Ezeagwu.

Evaluation of 2023 election
The NEC also evaluated the 2023 general election and noted the failure of the INEC to transmit election results in real-time from polling units, which it said gave room for manipulation of results, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), per reporting by The PUNCH.
The statement condemned electoral violence and the use of security agencies to intimidate voters and perpetrate other crimes across the country.
“NEC noted the resilience, and doggedness of our presidential candidate and its resolve to legitimately reclaim its mandate in court.
“NEC accordingly calls on the judiciary to do the right thing irrespective of whose ox is gored.”
It stressed its implicit confidence in the NWC led by Julius Abure.
