The Labour Party (LP) candidate in the ongoing Edo governorship election, Olumide Akpata, has been defeated in his polling unit.
TheNiche had earlier reported that seventeen candidates are vying for the governorship position, with sixteen men and one woman in the running.
LP candidate, Akpata alongside the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Monday Okpebholo and Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo are the leading contenders.
However, after votes from Akpata’s polling unit were collated and announced, Ighodalo polled 41 votes to defeat the former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), who garnered 32 votes at polling unit 11, Ward 06, Oredo LGA of the Edo State.

Monday Okpebholo came third with 19 votes.
Upon casting his vote, Akpata had described his voting experience as “seamless”.
He, however, said that his wish is that every other voter in the state will have the same seamless experience as he did.
“I was given my ballot paper, went to the booth, thumb printed, and dropped it in the ballot box. Everything went well,” Akpata said.
“I hope this is the experience of every Edo voter. I will wait for feedback from all the wards and polling units
