The League Management Company (LMC) has explained why some Glo Premier League (GPL) matches were adjusted.
Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the LMC, Salihu Abubakar, in a chat with TheNiche said the fixtures were adjusted in order to give all the participating teams a level-playing ground.
He said: “Apart from the fact that the adjustments to the fixtures were made in response to sudden changes owing to the ongoing Federation Cup competition, we also took the decision to correct some wrong impressions in the football circle.”
According to him, the Week 20 fixtures earlier scheduled for Sunday, July 20, have been moved to Sunday, July 27, for avoidance of fixture congestion.
He said Week 21 games that would have been played on Sunday, July 27, will be on Wednesday, August 6, and that the games of Week 22 and 23 have been shifted.
He said: “We have taken a second look at the changes in the Federation Cup fixtures and have taken steps to allow clubs participating in that competition, to avoid future fixture pile-up that may confer advantages to some clubs”.
“These changes only affect the games of Match Day 20 to 24 and new dates for Match Day 23 and 24 are Sunday, August 10 and Wednesday, August 13.
“All other fixtures will remain as has been scheduled and announced, as all stakeholders are advised to take note of the changes and adjust their schedule accordingly,” he said.
