The Toffees after an initial resistance were beaten 4-1 by Liverpool in a Merseyside derby played at Goodison Park on a cold Wednesday evening.

Jordan Henderson opened the scoring for the away side as early as the 9th minute when he scored a delicious goal from a pass from Andrew Roberton to make it 1-0 to Liverpool.

The visitors waited for just 11 minutes before registering another goal through Mohamed Salah in the 20th minute to make it 2-0 to the team in red.

Everton, who did not offer much attacking threat in the first half, pulled one back in the 38th minute when Demaral Gray was given a through pass by Richarlison which he converted to make it 2-1.

The goal energized the home side as they search for an equalizer before halftime but neither of the teams could add to their tally before the match referee blew for halftime.

Mohammed Salah scored a brace from a solo effort from the middle of the field after Shamus Coleman’s howler, to give Liverpool a more comfortable 3-1 lead.

The visitors were not done, as Andrew Robertson produced another assist for Diogo Jota in the 79th minute, which he scored to end the game 4-1 in favor of Liverpool.

The visitors stayed third as their closest rivals at the top, Chelsea and Man City won against Watford and Aston Villa respectively.

Liverpool increased the scrutiny on their former manager, Rafael Benitez, as they cruised to the easy win over Everton at Goodison Park.
