Liverpools’ keeper, Alisson, made a crucial save from Martin Odegaard early in the second half after a misplaced pass from Thiago.

Diogo Jota then opened the scoring for the away side in the 54th minutes after getting a through pass from Thiago and beating  Aaron Ramsdale at his near post.

Jurgen Klopp then replaced Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz with Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino, even though the Portuguese forward scored the opening goal.

The Reds then doubled their advantage 8 minutes later, when substitute Roberto Firmino scored a perfect flick from Andrew Robertson’s cross.

Liverpool will face Watford after the international break before City takes on Burnley and if they win, they would be above the Citizens before they play.

Arsenals’ unbeaten runs have now ended but they remain in fourth, a point ahead of Manchester United and with two games in hand.
