Liverpool beat Inter Milan 2-0 at San Siro

Inter Milan will have to upturn a 2 goal deficit at Anfield in the return leg to stand a chance of reaching the quarter finals of the Champions League

Liverpool look set to qualify for the quarter finals of this year’s Champions League after scoring two late goals against Inter Milan in the San Siro.

The Red, having looked set for a goalless draw in the first leg, now take a two goal lead into the return leg in Anfield.  

The eventful first half ended without a goal, as both sides were unable to break each other down.

The visitor made three more substitutions in the second half after replacing Diego Jota with Roberto Firmino as early as the 46th minute. 

The substitution paid off as Firmino broke the deadlock in the 74th minute after heading in a corner from Andrew Robertson to put Liverpool 1-0 ahead.  

Mohamed Salah made it 2-0 in the 83rd minute after his shot inside the box took a deflection on its way into the net.

The Italian champions hit the bar through Hakan Çalhanoglu and were on top for long periods of the second half before Liverpool took the lead.  

Inter Milan will now need to upturn a 2 goal deficit in the return leg to stand a chance of qualifying for the quarter finals.
