Merseyside club Liverpool have officially requested that EFL should postpone their Thursday Carabao Cup semi-final encounter with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The club in a statement put out on Tuesday, requested for the cancellation of the clash because of coronavirus, illness, and injury concerns in their camp.
The club statement reads: “The Reds have formally requested to the EFL that the fixture be rescheduled after further suspected positive tests were registered among players and staff, allied to other factors impacting selection, including illness and injury.”
It added that “today’s application to the EFL is the need for traveling supporters to be given as much notice as possible of any potential postponement.”

Liverpool are expected to play the first leg of the semi-final of their Carabao Cup on Thursday away at Arsenal, with the return leg expected to take place a week after at Anfield.
More cases of Covid-19 within the squad resulted in the cancellation of training on Tuesday and the request was made after the latest round of testing found more cases within the first-team bubble.
The Reds missed the services of their manager Jurgen Klopp and three players, Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino, and Joel Matip in their dramatic 2-2 draw against Chelsea on Sunday after they all tested positive to Covid -19.
Meanwhile, the second of the Carabao semifinals will be played between two London rivals, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur today, Wednesday, January 5, 2022.
