On January 8, the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS related abuses and other matters would hear testimony of a victims of the Lekki shooting.
One of the petitions that would be heard that day is from a man who said he had his leg amputated as a result of the shooting at the Lekki Toll Gate on the night of October 20.
The army said they shot only blank bullets.
But on December 18, a petitioner came to testify that he lost a leg as a result of the shooting.
According to the petitioner’s lawyer, O.E. Bamgbola, the amputee, Lucky Philemon, was among the ‘peaceful protesters on the night of that shooting.
He said: “The petition relates to a peaceful protester who suffered gunshot injuries as a result of the shootings on the 20th of October in the Lekki axis, in consequence of which he became an amputee; his left leg was amputated.
“The petitioner is ready to commence his evidence, subject to the convenience of the panel,” the lawyer said during the sitting of the panel on December 18.
But chairman of the panel, Judge Emeritus Doris Okuwobi, said the petitioner could not give his testimony until the summons have been issued to the Nigerian Army.
She then adjourned the testimony till January 8.
