Hierarchy of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has been knocked by Stakeholders over leadership vacuum and seemingly inconsistent programme of its activities
Stakeholders, some of whom are currently attending the Federation’s congress in Abuja were aghast at several postponment of key programmes.
They insisted that the congress has been severally shifted making it the third time it had been postponed thereby frustrating the approval, adoption and implementation of the Federation’s yearly programme.
Summary of a flash Interviews by TheNiche revealed that stakeholders were aware of the leadership vacuum, “We are not happy with the leadership of AFN, nothing is happening, they keep planning and at the time postponing programme of activities. At this time of the year, AFN programme of activities for 2023 supposed to be out, AthIetes and Journalists keep asking questions.
Most Athletics Association Chairmen from states across the Federation also frowned at the leadership style of the AFN President Chief Tonobok Okowa who they said arrogates all powers to himself without carrying his team along and promised to do something about it at the Congress.
Recall that AFN planned its congress for Asaba, Bauchi, Jalingo all got postponed before it settled for Abuja, a development stakeholders say was not consistent with good Leadership.
It’s however expected that the federation hierarchy will present its programme of activities to the congress for approval and also table its statement of account and expenditure for the 2022. Etc.
