LASWA distributes 250 life jackets

LASWA distributes 250 life jackets for safety of water transportation.

Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) on Tuesday distributed 250 life jackets to ferry passengers at the Ipakodo ferry terminal in Ikorodu area of Lagos state.

According to a release by Nkechi Ajayi, spokesperson of LASWA, the exercise is in continuation of the ember months Safety Awareness and Sensitisation program.

The exercise, which began a few months ago, has taken place at various jetties and terminals across all zones on the state inland waterways.

Safety information booklets and flyers containing emergency numbers with passenger’s safety guidelines translated into local language were also given to ferry commuters  to boost their confidence while using the waterways.
Full text of the statement reads, “In continuation of its Ember Months Safety Awareness and Sensitization programs, the Lagos State Waterways Authority LASWA were at Ipakodo Ikorodu ferry terminal on Tuesday 1st of December 2020 to distribute several life jackets of different sizes to ferry passengers free of charge.

“The waterways safety campaign exercise which began few months ago has taken place at various jetties and terminal across all zones on the state inland waterways.

“Safety information booklets and flyers containing emergency numbers with passenger’s safety guidelines translated into local language were also given to ferry commuters so to boost their confidence while using the waterways.

“Regular Life Jackets distribution by LASWA to Boat Operators, riverine communities, school children and other waterways users in the state has always been parts of the Lagos State Government’s effort to improve waterways  safety and encourage the use of water transportation while decongesting road traffic in Lagos,” it stated
