LASAA orders removal of Jonathan’s posters in Lagos

Only APC Posters Are Allowed In Lagos

These are really dramatic days in Nigeria as news seems to break by the second, three weeks to the toughest Presidential election the country has seen in 16 years.

Yesterday it was about LASAA, the agency in charge of outdoor advertising in Lagos, an agency described as the citadel of hypocrisy.

‎While the state is flooded with posters from Muhammadu Buhari and Akinwunmi Ambode, the presidential and governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on walls, gates, poles, bridges, houses and elsewhere, the Lagos State agency has ordered the removal of President Goodluck Jonathan’s posters in the state.

The Advertising Agency, known as LASAA‎, said all President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign materials recently deployed on street lamp poles in Lagos are illegal and should be removed. (na wa o state dictating to the president..)

The posters were deployed by the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, TAN, a group that works for the re-election of President Jonathan. ‎

‎Pretending to rely on the law, LASAA said if TAN failed to heed the order, its enforcement team would remove the posters in line with the enabling law setting it up.

At a news conference in Ikeja on Wednesday, LASAA Managing Director, George Noah, said the agency was constrained by recent developments in the electioneering campaign in Lagos to bring to the fore “impunity and illegality that posed immeasurable and long term damage to those who erect, operate and maintain billboards in the state.”
