Lagos orders schools to vacate for Christmas December 18

Primary and secondary schools in Lagos state are to vacate for the Christmas and New Year holiday on Friday, December 18, the Lagos state government has said.

The holiday will also mark the end of the first term, according to a statement by the director-general, Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education, Abiola Seriki-Ayeni.

“The 2020/2021 First (1st) term academic session for public and private schools comes to an end on Friday 18th December, 2020,” the statement said.

Seriki-Ayeni added: “Therefore, all public and private schools below tertiary level in the state are to close for the Christmas and New Year holiday on that day.

“Schools are to resume back on Monday 4th January, 2021 in compliance with the Lagos State harmonized academic calendar.”

Seriki-Ayeni exolained that boarding students would resume on Sunday, January 3, 2021.

The statement directed schools to submit their safety plans to the Office of Education Quality Assurance’s website: www.oeqalagos.com.

Seriki-Ayeni enjoined parents to comply with the COVID-19 safety protocols at home.

The statement also directed school proprietors and administrators to ensure compliance to COVID-19 safety protocols when schools resume for 2nd term on Monday, January, 4 2021.
