Lagos on 17.84m, Kano 8.36m. Abuja 7.11m

Lagos the commercial hub and most populous state is also dominant in internet use with 17.84 million subscribers, more than double that of nearest rival Ogun, with Kano in third position and Abuja a distant fifth.
Oyo joins Lagos and Ogun to complete three South West states in the top five, which feature no state from the South East.
Lagos, Ogun, and Kano jointly accounted for 23.8 per cent of the total internet subscriber base in the first quarter ended March (Q1 2022), per the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
National internet subscription rose 0.62 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to 145.85 million in Q1 2022 versus 144.95 million in Q1 2021.
MTN with 60.7 million internet customers led telecom operators, followed by Glo
(39.57 million), and Airtel (39.4 million).
A total 6,393 internet subscribers ported. Airtel had the highest number who ported, MTN received the most at 1,452.
Abuja with 487,197 recorded the highest internet subscriber increase to 7.7 million YoY, followed by Anambra (286,143), and Lagos (248,314).

Ranking breakdown
A further breakdown of the ranking in Q1 2022 is enumerated below, per reporting by Nairametrics:
1. Lagos – 17.84m
Lagos clinched the highest number of internet subscribers with 17.84 million, representing 12.2 per of total national subscribers.
The figure rose by 248,314 YoY from 17.84 million in Q1 2021.
2. Ogun – 8.54m
Ogun, a neighbour of Lagos and host of many industries, had 8.54 million internet subscribers, a 5.9 per cent rise on Q1 2021.
But its subscriber base dipped by 155,951 YoY from 8.69 million in Q 1 2021.
3. Kano – 8.36m
Kano the second most populous state saw 8.36 million internet customers or 5.7 per cent of the national total.
It added 35,336 new subscribers YoY above 8.33 million in Q1 2021.
4. Oyo – 7.52m
Oyo, which has Ibadan as the largest city in West Africa, and is a neighbour to Lagos and Ogun, recorded 7.52 million internet subscribers, or 5.2 per cent of the total.
The number reduced by 213,612 from 7.74 million in Q1 2021.
5. Abuja – 7.11m
Capital city Abuja accounted for 4.9 per cent of total internet subscribers with 7.11 million, increasing by 487,197 YoY from 6.62 million in Q1 2021.
