Lagos community advises residents to shun power bill

Residents of Eguru/Aguda Community Development Association (EACDA) in Lagos have been advised not to pay April power bill because of “arbitrary, crazy and estimated billing.”

A letter dated April 16, signed by EACDA Chairman, Ebere Ubani, and General Secretary, Olaseni Ogungbadero, which was sent to Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Mushin Business District), highlighted poor power supply.

The letter was based the decision at a meeting on April 15 to register displeasure with irregular and poor power supply accompanied by the high electricity bill for the month.

EACDA disclosed that power is often supplied from 7pm to 5am daily, and supply from 7pm to 12am is always “very epileptic” before it becomes stable.

“This epileptic power supply has resulted in the damage of various household appliances.

“We are by this letter informing you that the Community Development Association has instructed the residents not to pay the April 2015 monthly bill for now until the issue of the crazy, arbitrary and estimated billing is resolved,” the letter read.

EACDA is a peace loving community, it said, and is thinking of approaching a lawyer on the possibility of a legal action against the distribution company.

It requested pre-paid meters for members of the community.
