A new secretariat has been opened in Gombe by the Labour Party (LP) as it prepares for congresses and other activities in the state to facilitate gaining more ground in the North East where it was squeezed out in the general election in 2023.
LP chieftain John David disclosed the new office has the support of the party’s National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Nenadi Usman, a former Finance Commissioner in the Olusegun Obasanjo administration who assumed the LP job last month.
“The purpose of this gathering is to unveil this office. We know that before now there was no office in Gombe State. But now, we are ready for this journey to support our national chairman, Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, who was given the caretaker to transact the processes of LP before the forthcoming convention,” David said.
He urged state LP members to remain united in order to square up with the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) in general election in 2027.
Middle Belt Stakeholders Chairman Silas Lamela enthused the secretariat will advance the course of the LP across the 11 councils in Gombe.
“We have found it necessary to have a forum to build the course of the Middle Belt in the Labour Party,” he said.
