Kwara TUC resolves crisis, inaugurates new chairman

The Kwara State chapter of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has resolved the crisis about election of its new chairman.

The crisis was resolved yesterday with the inauguration of the new chairman, Comrade Akinsola Akinwumi, after the election had been held last November.

The election which took place during the delegate conference of the union in November reached a stalemate as no candidate was declared winner.

Winners of the other posts however emerged at the election and while a chairman could not be sworn in these winners were sworn in making the vice chairman to be acting as the chairman.

The crisis was resolved by the national leadership of the union which set up a committee to reconcile factions in the election.

The reconciliation ended with the factions unanimously agreeing that Akinwumi won the election and emerged the new chairman.

Chairman of the reconcilation committee, Comrade Martin Egbanubi, who spoke with newsmen after the inauguration of Akinwumi said the committee adopted principle of social dialogue to resolve the crisis.

He advised the newly inaugurated chairman to extend hands of fellowship to other members to make the union united and stronger.

The new chairman who also spoke with newsmen said he would always fight the course of the workers and would not betray the trust repose in him.

Akinwumi assured that his leadership would suatain the on-going agitation for the implemntationnof N30,000 minimum wage in the state and would not relent until the government meets their demand.
