The new executive committee of the Kwara state branch of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) has advised the state government against enactment of laws that could put surveying and related works in jeopardy in the state.
The new leadership made the advice after the committee was inaugurated in Ilorin on Tuesday.
The Vice Chairman, Ishola Mobolaji Issa, who spoke on behalf of the chairman, Adewale Lere, and the other members of the committee said the state should ensure it looks into what the federal laws say and also consider best advice from the appropriate quarters before enacting state laws on the Surveying and related matters.
He urged the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in the state to advise the government and the state House of Assembly on the laws they make.

Issa enjoined surveyors in the state to always be guided by ethics of the profession saying this was important in view of significance of surveying in infrastructural constructions.
In his speech at the occasion, the Surveyor-General of the state, Ibrahim Mohammed, charged the new committee to be up and doing and ensure it surpasses achievements of its predecessor.
Mohammed urged the new NIS leaders to always take as important the guidance of elders of the institution to be able to run a successful administration.
The immediate past chairman of the institution, Buhari Eletu, who was proud of achievement of his leadership in office urged the new leadership to surpass the achievement.
He enjoined the new leaders to carry along all members of the institution to enable them run a successful administration.
Also speaking, Abayomi Bobadoye, who chaired the occasion said the Kwara branch of the institution seems to be greater outside than home and urged that the matter should be looked into so that the body could be great at home as it is outside.
Other members of the executive committee are Rotimi Asonibare (Secretary), Abdulraheem Fatai (Assistant Secretary), B.A. Jimoh (Council Representative), Hassan Adua (Financial Secretary), Owolabi Sunday (Treasurer), B A. Ayoola (Publicity Secretary) and Mrs Adebola Arinde (Auditor).
