No fewer than 43, 695 voters are expected to vote on Saturday in the by-election of the Pategi state l constituency in Kwara State.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Garba Madami, while briefing newsmen on Wednesday on the preparation of the commission for the by-election explained that the number was the list of people of the constituency who have collected their Personal Voter’s Card (PVC).
Madami said that though the total number of registered voters in the constituency is 52, 235, total number of PVC received is 51, 476 out of which 43, 695 were collected by the registered voters while 7, 781 were yet to be collected.
He said that the yet-to-be collected PVCs were kept in the safe of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The by-election is meant to elect a new officer for the seat of the constituency in the state House of Assembly.
The election is being conducted following the death of the former occupant of the seat, Saidu Rufai, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) last December.
Madami disclosed that six parties namely the APC, PDP, AAC, ADC, APM, and NNPP would be participating in the election with the APM presenting a female candidate, Aisatu Mohammed.
He said that there were 59 polling units and 56 voting centres in all the 10 wards of the constituency where election would take place.
The electoral commissioner said that adequate logistics and security arrangements had been made for the successful conduct of the election and urged voters to come out and vote peacefully for their choice at the poll.
