Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Governor now gunning for the Villa, has promised to provide scholarships to students at various levels of education if elected President in 2023, just as he did when he was Kano helmsman.

Kwankwaso was Governor from 1999 to 2003 and 2011 to 2015 and served as Defence Minister between 2003 and 2007 in the Olusegun Obasanjo administration.

He is running for President on the ticket of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Kwankwaso recounted his achievements as Governor on his Twitter handle, saying scholarship grants would end educational backwardness.

“One of my most telling legacies as Governor of Kano is in the vast improvement in the human capital of our people.

“I have fond memories of thousands of our citizens benefiting from scholarship opportunities to advance themselves in major and specialised courses,” he tweeted.

“That includes engineering, medicine, aviation and the like. Some of these include: [I] sent over 2,600 students to 14 countries including UK, UAE, Ukraine, Turkey, Cyprus, India China, Malaysia, among others across the world.”
