Many young supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, are angry that one of the leading denialists of the Lekki shooting, Gen. John Enenche made it to the list of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

Obi appointed Gen. Enenche, a former military spokesman as a member of his PCC, along with many other Nigerians.

The PCC list was released yesterday, October 12, with a former presidential spokesman to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, as the director general, while Oseloka Obaze will serve as deputy director general.

The campaign council has six spokespersons, with former national chairman of National Conscience Party (NCP), Yinusa Tanko leading the team.

Enenche’s appointment on the Labour Party PCC is coming barely seven days to the second anniversary of the Lekki tollgate shooting in which he spearheaded the government’s argument that the massacre was a fiction.

Many of Obi’s supporters are among the EndSARS activists, who resented Gen. Enenche for vehemently rejecting  the claim that the military killed helpless protesters on October 20, 2020, in Lekki tollgate.

A frontline Obi supporter and an EndSARS activist, Rinu Oduala, left a cryptic message on her Twitter handle.

She said: “If you are part of those who helped the Nigerian Government to spread lies about the massacre of protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate & all over the country, Nigeria will happen to you! #EndSARS.”

@fisayosoyombo said: “By appointing John Enenche, an officer who claimed photos and videos of slain #EndSARS protesters were ‘photoshopped’, into his presidential campaign council, Peter Obi confirms what many have always said: he is ‘one of them’.”

@kombo96147903 said: “I have withdrawn my support for him pending the removal of that man. No wonder he is being supported by Paul Enenche.”

@AbdulMahmud01 said: “What do we really want in this country? Remove the bad and replace them with the ugly! How can anybody defend General Enenche who was part of the false narrative of the deep state/military industrial complex that masked the truth of the #Lekkitollgate massacre?”

But @Firstladyship countered: “Peter Obi was with #EndSARS through & through. He never shied away from Responsibilities. There’ll be no crass dereliction of duty on his watch. Give Obi a break, he is no Jesus for Christ’s sake!”

@AjeboDanny added: “After seeing John Enenche, an army spokesman on the Labour Party campaign council, I now regret the way i have supported Peter Obi, and will now channel all my strength, time and money into supporting Peter Obi aggressively and ensure he Wins.”

@IruefiNG said: “Those who say they won’t vote Obi because he listed Gen Enenche in the PCC are just clowns who don’t know how politics works. In a paradigm shift, you need a ‘bad guy’, you need a person who was on the ‘other side’ to be able to navigate some areas, you think we can do it alone?”
