Kerosene price jumps highest in Ebonyi, lowest in Bayelsa

Per litre price of kerosene, the most consumed liquefied cooking fuel in cities, rose by N26.91 from N441.06 in November 2021 to N467.97 in December or 6.10 per cent, according to the latest figures of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
That is the average official price.
The average street price in Lagos, however, has remained at N500 per litre – by which a five-litre keg has cost N2,000 – since at least the fourth quarter of 2021 (Q4 2021). It costs higher in the hinterland states.
As for cooking gas, a 12.5kg cylinder refill costs N10,000 on average in January 2022, up 186 per cent from N3,500 in December 2020.
The NBS reported it only rose 0.33 per cent in December 2021 from N7,308.06 in November.
Its document titled “National Household Kerosene Price Watch December 2021” said “the average price per litre of Household Kerosene paid by consumers in December 2021 was N467.97, an increase of 6.10 per cent on a month-on-month [MoM] basis from N441.06 in November 2021.
“On a year-on-year [YoY] basis, the average price of the product increased by 32.65 per cent from N353.79 in December 2020 to N467.97 in December 2021.”

The top three states with the highest average price per litre of kerosene in December 2021 were:
- Ebonyi – N687.50
- Abia – N585.00
- Ekiti – N552.08

The bottom three states with the lowest average price per litre were
- Nasarawa – N384.85
- Kwara – N355.60
- Bayelsa – N300.00
Per reporting by The Nation, the NBS said:
- Average price per gallon of kerosene rose 2.51 per cent MoM from N1544.01 in November 2021 to N1582.73 in December 2021.
- Average price per gallon of kerosene jumped 34.63 per cent YoY from N1175.59 in December 2020 to N1582.73 in December 2021.

The top three states with the highest average price per gallon of kerosene in December 2021 were:
- Cross River N2,035.94
- Lagos – N2,015.79
- Jigawa – N2,004.44
States with lowest price per gallon
The bottom three states with the lowest price were:
- Borno – N1,181.25
- Yobe – N1,164.29
- Adamawa – N1,006.25
Cooking gas price (5kg cylinder)
The NBS disclosed in another document titled “Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) Price Watch (December 2021)” that:
- The average price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of cooking gas rose 8.53 per cent MoM in December 2021 from N3312.42 in November 2021.
- It increased 84.37 per cent YoY from N1949.75 in December 2020 to N3594.81 in December 2021.

- Benue – N3,975.00

- Bauchi – N2,586.43
- Yobe – N2,543.14
- Adamawa – N2,398.40
Cooking gas price (12.5kg cylinder)
According to the NBS, the average price for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of cooking gas was up 0.33 per cent MoM in December 2021 from N7308.06 in November 2021.
It rose 76.49 per cent YoY from N4,154.28 in December 2020 to N7,332.04 in December 2021.
