Lagos State Police Command, yesterday warned Lagosians against gathering at the Lekki Tollgate to mark a year anniversary of the EndSARs protest.
There were reports in the media that there was a heavy police presence at the tollgate yesterday, October 11, to forestall a possible breakdown of law and order.
The command advised against the gathering, noting that the intended peaceful protest may be hijacked by unscrupulous elements, it, therefore, advised those planning such to jettison the idea in the interest of peace in Lagos state.
Recall, the EndSARs movement which started on Twitter in 2017 as a campaign against police brutality, later became a full-blown protest in October 2020, it eventually turned to civil unrest, after protesters alleged some of them were killed by the military.
Veteran actress, Kate Henshaw in a tweet on her verified Twitter handle today, confirmed the heavy police presence earlier reported yesterday when she tweeted:
“What’s with the huge presence of Police at the Lekki Tollgate this morning???🤔🤔🤔”
Nigerians have also been responding, while some accused her of being part of the country’s problem, others joined in expressing surprise at the heavy presence of police at the Lekki Tollgate.
