Kashamu, Na’abba, others listed in ICPC pending cases

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has released the list of pending and ongoing cases against individuals that were brought before it.

 

Part one of the list which was signed by the commission’s spokesperson, Folu Olamiti and made available to Daily Trust contains 267 criminal cases between 2001 and 2015 and 142 civil cases between 2007 and 2015.

The document indicates that among the list of civil cases is that of Prince Buruji Kashamu, businessman and politician.

 

ICPC said his injunctions to stop the commission from investigating him was struck out in October 2014 for lack of diligent prosecution, it therefore said he is still under investigation.

 

Listed in the criminal cases, ICPC said, are the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Na’abba, former Inspector General of Police, Mr Sunday Ehindero, Assistant Comptroller General (Admin) Customs, Mohammed Nasir Umar and a former Director General at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Joe Okhiku.

 

It however said Ghali Na’aba, had filed an application challenging his invitation by the commission in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/319/02 before the Federal High Court in Abuja, to which the commission raised an objection that was sustained.

 

According to the statement, former Inspector General of Police, Mr Sunday Ehindero and former Commissioner of Police in charge of budget, John Obaniyi have a matter slated for April 28, 2015 before an Abuja High Court on charges of using their positions to confer corrupt advantage and making false statements to officers of ICPC.

 

The commission said, although Mr Ehindero had filed further appeal at the Supreme Court it is yet to be heard.

 

“While the Assistant CG (Admin) Customs, Mohammed Umar will be arraigned on May 12, 2015 before an FCT High Court over conspiracy and the use of office to confer corrupt advantage, Joe Okhiku, former Director General of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) will be arraigned on April 4, 2015 for misappropriation of over N50million from the coffers of NAN,”ICPC stated.
