Kano anti-graft agency, PCACC summons Ganduje over ‘Dollar Videos’

PCACC argued that the invitation will afford Ganduje the opportunity to clear his name in the controversy

Former Kano State governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Abdullahi Ganduje has been summoned for questioning by the state anti-graft agency, known as Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) over some dollar videos that went viral six years ago.

In 2017, an online publication, Daily Nigerian, released some videos of Ganduje while allegedly receiving kickbacks from some contractors in dollar denomination.

The ex-governor later refuted the claims, arguing that the incident never took place and that the videos were doctored by his distractors.

However, speaking on Wednesday at a one-day public dialogue on “Anti-Corruption Crusade in Kano,” Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, the chairman of PCACC, said the videos have been authenticated by his agency.

Rimingado also confirmed while featuring on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics on Thursday, that his commission has invited Ganduje for questioning over the matter.

He went on to assure the public that the ex-governor will get the opportunity to finally clear his name in the controversy because his agency believes in the legal maxim of “innocent until proven guilty”

Speaking during the programme he said: “I have signed a letter to invite him for questioning at the commission next week because this is what the law says and we will provide ample opportunity for him to defend himself,”

Meanwhile, a group, Coalition for Northern Civil Society Group, has condemned the moves by the agency to investigate the dollar videos.

It argued that it was a political move orchestrated by the Kano State government to bring Ganduje’s name into disrepute and prevent him from securing an appointment with the President Bola Tinubu led federal government.
