Kamala Harris makes surprise appearance on day 1 of DNC, hails Biden

Kamala Harris eulogized her boss, Biden for his exemplary leadership and lifetime of service to Americans

United States vice president and democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, made an unexpected appearance on Monday evening and briefly spoke on the first night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, Illinois.

Harris was initially scheduled to appear later alongside President Joe Biden, the keynote speaker of the evening. However, she surprised attendees by taking the stage early on the first day of the four-day event.

She will also speak on Thursday as her party’s nominee when the convention is expected to come to an end. 

“This is going to be a great week, and I want to kick us off by celebrating our incredible President Joe Biden, who will be speaking later tonight,” Harris said to loud cheers inside the United Center.

She went on to eulogise her boss for his exemplary leadership and lifetime of service to the country.

She added, “Joe, thank you for your historic leadership, for your lifetime of service to our nation, and for all you will continue to do. We are forever grateful to you.”

During the first day of the convention, delegates formally adopted a party platform. Later in the week, Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will formally accept their nominations as the party.

Meanwhile, Biden slammed former US president, Donald Trump while delivering his keynote address on the first day of the Democratic National Convention.

He chastised the Republican candidate in the November presidential election for choosing when to love the country. 

According to the US president, he only loves America whenever he wins an election.

Speaking at the event, Biden told his predecessor, “You cannot say you love your country only when you win.”
