Jonathan, Mu’azu relationship excellent –PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the relationship between President Goodluck Jonathan and his National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, is excellent.

This is contained in a statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Olisa Metuh, in Abuja on Monday.

It stated that in spite of provocative publications “the PDP wishes to state that our leaders and members nationwide are impressed with his style of leadership’’.

The statement said the president and the national chairman enjoyed an excellent relationship contrary to some media report.

It stated that the excellent relationship had in the last one year enhanced “our support base and public rating ahead of the 2015 general elections.’’

Metuh said they would remain focused on their campaigns in spite of insinuations in the media about Jonathan’s relationship with Mu `azu.

The party’s spokesman, however, said that the aim of those behind the report was to sow seed of discord and cause confusion within the party`s ranks.

He added that it was also to distract the attention of the party`s leadership and undermine its presidential campaign as it “is now coasting swiftly to victory to the chagrin of the opposition’’.

Metuh maintained that the PDP was unwavering in its resolve to work as a united family toward the coming election, saying that no amount of media fabrications and malicious insinuations would distract it.

According to him, Mu`azu’s maturity and decent approach to issues of the party had continued to add immense value in keeping with the party`s tradition and vision being one of the party`s founding fathers.

The spokesman noted that Mu `azu’s disposition had continued to attract “massive support across board for President Jonathan as the party`s presidential candidate’’.

He further added that the national chairman is the arrowhead of the PDP presidential campaign train in view of the excellent working relationship between him and with Jonathan.

Metuh pointed out that their bond at rallies, visits and meetings with party stakeholders across the country was an eloquent testimony to the excellent relationship.

He, however, added that despite numerous unwarranted provocations, the PDP could not be detracted from its commitment to the campaigns.

He maintained that the party had continued to reinforce its values and dedication to unity, peace and stability of the country.

“This exemplary style of politics played significant role in reducing the tension in the polity ahead of the elections.

“It has also endeared our party to majority of Nigerian citizens and key stakeholders in the electoral process,’’ he said.

He also added that it was to the credit of the PDP National Chairman, that his leadership qualities stabilised the party at critical moments.

The party, he said, had also successfully achieved unity among its leaders and members while strengthening the confidence of Nigerians as the only vehicle to deliver democracy dividends to them.

“Also indisputable is his deft application of wealth of experience and far-reaching connections to galvanise the entire party structure in adopting President Jonathan as our sole presidential candidate.’’

This, according to him, is a project to which the PDP National Chairman has remained unflinchingly committed.

He further added that since the commencement of its campaigns, Mu` azu had evolved and maintained a dynamic structure.

He ensured that this involved members of the party`s National Working Committee (NWC) engaging in personal and group campaigns as well as strategic meetings with critical stakeholders in their respective states.

The essence of this, Metuh said, was to ensure the success of Jonathan and other candidates of the party in the forthcoming general elections.

He explained that this had manifested in effective coordination of party structures in all the zones, states, local governments and wards across the country.
