Joke Silva, niece, banter over tribute to Queen Elizabeth

Joke Silva also engaged some netizens in an argument over the content of her tribute to Queen Elizabeth II who died recently

Veteran Nollywood actress, Joke Silva, and her niece have disagreed over what the longest-reigning British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II stands for. 

The late Queen Elizabeth II, who is United Kingdom’s longest-serving monarch, died on Thursday, September 8, at the age of 96, after reigning for 70 years.

She lived through wars, colonial times and pandemics before passing away after a brief illness. 

Buckingham Palace in a statement made available after she passed away said she began having “episodic mobility problems.”

Reacting to the news of the death of the British monarch, ace thespian, Joke Silva, took to her Instagram page on Thursday night to pen a tribute to the Queen.  

She wrote,  “Her Majesty dedicated her life to service, to her country and commonwealth….with grace. And with grace, she has started her next journey.”

Responding to her tribute, a netizen identified as Ienubienne who happens to be her niece disagreed with her saying,  “Oh no this is not the move Auntie.”

Joke Silva countered her saying,  “My niece don’t like the Queen,” 

Not willing to back down, her niece replied, “Not at all; millions of people have been killed and captured under her reign, she never apologised for slavery and she died filthy rich on the backs and hard work of oppressed people from dozens of countries the crown colonized. May she rest in the same peace that her (in) action caused her colonial subjects,” 

She was not alone in the criticism of her aunt’s message to the late Queen, an Instagram user identified as Lexx also wrote: “Mama these people loot us woto woto. You na our mummy and so no wham.”

Responding to the criticism over her tribute Joke replied, “You don’t have to like her because I do,”
