A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe has chastised human rights activist and social media influencer, Aisha Yesufu for disrespecting the re-introduced national anthem, ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’.

TheNiche had earlier reported that the  activist rejected the national anthem in a tending video on social media, where she was seen sitting at an event while others were standing and reciting the new anthem.

She then proceeded to share the now-viral clip on her X handle and tweeted, “Not my anthem.”

Reacting to her action via his Facebook, Joe Igbokwe said Yesufu exhibited “nonsensical behaviour”.

He went on to say she was doing damage to herself and family by disrespecting the national anthem.

Igbokwe said:  “Aisha Yesufu cannot respect the National Anthem. Let us see where all the nonsensical behavior will take her to.

“She may not understand the damage she is doing to herself and her family. Continue.”

The National Assembly recently passed National Anthem Bill 2024 despite reservations expressed by a lot of Nigerians.

On Wednesday, May 29, President Bola Tinubu assented to the bill, thereby jettisoning the former anthem, ‘Arise O Compatriot’ which was adopted in 1978.
