Jigawa tanker explosion death toll climbs to 147
The death toll from the tanker explosion in Majia, located in the Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has risen to 147.
Taura LG Chairman Shuaibu Hambali confirmed the tragic update to reporters, stating that an additional 72 individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Meanwhile, in response to this devastating incident, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has expressed his condolences to the government and people of Jigawa State.

A statement from the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, described the incident as a heart-wrenching tragedy, representing a significant loss not only for Jigawa State but for the nation as a whole.
The statement read: “We received with deep shock the news of the devastating fire in Majia town, Taura Local Government Area, Jigawa State, which resulted in the loss of many lives and the hospitalization of numerous victims.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Kano State, I extend our deepest sympathies to Governor Umar Namadi, the government and people of Jigawa State, especially to the families of the deceased and the community of Majia.
“May Allah SWT grant eternal peace to the souls of the departed, provide a speedy recovery to those injured, and may we never witness such a catastrophe again,” the Governor prayed.
