The first edition of Basharun J. K Randle memorial U16 soccer tournament has kicked off in Lagos.
Heralding the kick-off of the all boys football tourney on Tuesday, the sponsor Bashorun Randle said government should commit more funds to the development of sports and education in Nigeria.
Education and Sports play a vital role in the life of every youth and government should consider every penny spent in that sector as important.
“In our days as youths, we do all sports and specialises in one or two and it makes friendship possible” he said.
The 24 youth teams shared into six groups of four teams each will play at various venues in Lagos.
According to the organisers, the finals of the tournament will be played at Campus Square mini Stadium next week.
Cash prizes and gifts would be awarded to winners.
Although, the sponsor wants to keep the awards a top secret, preferring to surprise the winners at the end of the tournament.
