Iyanya hails Calabar indigenes after Mayorkun recovered second pendant

Iyanya had earlier announced that one of Mayorkun’s pendants was recovered and returned to The Grand Hotel Calabar

Nigerian singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbu simply known as Iyanya, has appreciated the people of Calabar in Cross Rivers State after the second pendant belonging to his colleague, Mayorkun, which was earlier reportedly stolen, was recovered.

Prior to this, Mayorkun had vowed not to perform again in Calabar, after his diamond chains were stolen at the 2023 Calabar Carnival.

However, hours after the incident, Iyanya announced that one of the pendants was recovered and returned to The Grand Hotel Calabar.

He said: “Thank you to the guy who brought this back this morning to THE GRAND HOTEL CALABAR. Just returned now is 1 of 2 of #Mayorkun jewelry. We have one more to go. My brothers, if you have the second one please help us return it.”

Mayorkun later took to his social media page to inform his fans that the Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, assured him that he would be compensated for his lost valuables in Calabar after meeting him.

Taking to his X account (formerly Twitter) on Thursday to brief netizens on the development, Iyanya announced that the second jewellery has been found and acknowledged the efforts of individuals who helped in the recovery.

He also stated that the pendant has been handed over to Hon. Effiong Ekpenyong, Special Adviser, Events Management, Governor’s Office, Calabar, after being received by Mr. Duke Emmanuel at Hit FM Calabar.

He tweeted: “Thank you to my Calabar people for doing what’s right. # Mayorkun’s second pendant has been found.

“This morning we got a call that it was returned to #HitFMCalabar and was received by Mr. Duke Emmanuel, who later transferred the pendant to Hon. Effiong Ekpenyong MNIPR, FCAI Special Adviser Events Management, Governors Office, Calabar.

“We are and will remain a peaceful and hospitable state, Cross River State. Thank you.”
