ITF scheme graduates youths to reduce unemployment

More than 80 youths have graduated from skills acquisition training by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) this year, according to ITF Director General Joseph Ari who said the beneficiaries were thoroughly nurtured throughout equipped for jobs.

The ITF in partnership with the Ministry of Humanitarian, Disaster Management and Social Development embarked on training and empowering youths on the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ari, represented by ITF Training Director Lami Dakwa, said the N-Power built training programme is one of the numerous skills intervention programmes that Abuja has conceived and implemented to produce a core of skilled and highly competent artisans, technicians, and service professionals.

The participants serve in both the public and private sectors of the economy, he stressed.

According to him, the effort and commitment put into the programme by the Humanitarian Ministry has transformed the lives of many Nigerian youths across the country through innovative solutions and initiatives.

Tackling youth employment

Ari said the N-Power programme addresses youth unemployment, an outcome of a hands-on skills training, collaborates with the Institute of Tourism Professionals, the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), and the ITF, which handles training, per reporting by The Nation.

The 80 graduates were trained in

  • Baking and confectionary
  • Catering
  • Cookery
  • Housekeeping
  • Automotive
  • Mechatronics technology

Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Minister Sadiya Farauk said empowerment programme is very dear to this administration and this is just the first segment.

About ITF

The ITF was established by Decree 47 of 1971, amended in the ITF Act 2011.

It has raised training consciousness in the economy and also helped generate a corps of skilled indigenous manpower which has been manning and managing various sectors of the economy, according to its website.

Over the years, the ITF has expanded its structures, developed training programmes, reviewed its strategies, operations and services to meet the expanding, and changing demands for skilled manpower in the economy.

Beginning as a Parastatal “B” in 1971, headed by a Director, the ITF became a Parastatal “A” in 1981, with a Director General as the Chief Executive under the aegis of the Ministry of Industry.

The Fund has a 13-member Governing Council and operates with 14 Departments and two Units at the Headquarters, 40 Area Offices, four Skills Training Centres, and a Centre for Industrial Training Excellence.
