The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi, has commended the Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Mr. Allen Onyema, over what he described as his “gesture of patriotism and support for humanity” by providing his aircraft for free evacuation of Nigerians trapped in South-Africa.

Obi made the commendation at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos,.

Obi, who reiterated his earlier appeal to Nigerians in South Africa to unite and assist one another, especially those already affected by the “xenophobic madness”, called on the government of South-Africa to compensate all those affected by the crisis.

He said that this was the time for the  government to demonstrate concern for Nigerians by engaging the South African government on compensating those affected.

Obi, who earlier cancelled his trip to South-Africa, appealed to the government at all levels as well as wealthy Nigerians to support those affected by the crisis.

The Anambra State former governor, who said he was in touch with some Nigerian leaders in South Africa,  further disclosed that he was worried about the effect of the actions of the South Africans on African unity.
