Chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), organisers of the league, Nduka Irabor, while officially confirming that the new season will begin on March 7, 2015, added that the LMC will come up with new initiatives to make the league exciting and lucrative.

He said: “Clubs were earlier given the chance to choose between a January 21 kick-off date or for the competition to begin on March 7.

“We eventually settled for the latter and, so far, there is no going back on the kick-off date picked for the league.”

He explained that one of such initiatives is a reward for fans’ turn-out for league matches. We are introducing next season a reward or benefit award like we have done with points accumulated.

“Next year, we are going to introduce ability to bring fans into the stadium, as a condition for distributing money.

“And we are going to give points according to the fans you bring, with 3,000 being the bench mark.”

He explained that “anything under 3,000 you don’t get any point. But as you get 3,000 you get a point and as you progress the point increases.

“At the end of the season, we tally the points and reward the clubs.”

Kano Pillars got N15 million for finishing top on the Premier League, while Nembe City got N1.5 million for finishing bottom of the league.
