Inter Milan edge past AC Milan, clinch 20th Serie A title

Inter Milan also had Dumfries sent off, while AC Milan’s Hernandez and Calabria were also dismissed during the closing stages of the tie

Inter Milan on Monday night defeated harsh-rivals, AC Milan 2-1 at the San Siro Stadium to win their 20th Serie A title.

The Nerazzurri opened the scoring in the 18th minute after Francesco Acerbi’s header gave then a deserved lead. 

The visitors then doubled their tally in the 49th minute through French striker, Marcus Thuram.

Although AC Milan grabbed a late goal through England defender, Fikayo Tomori, it was too title too late as it only served as a mere consolation for the host.

Tempers then boiled over in the closing stages of the Derby, as Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria were sent off for AC Milan, while Denzel Dumfries was dismissed for Inter.

Simone Inzaghi’s side with the precious win have now established an unassailable 17-point lead over their second-placed city rivals.

This means Inter Milan are now champions with five fixtures left and 15 more points to fight for. 

Meanwhile in the other Seria A game played on the night, Roma suffered a shocking 3-1 defeat at home to Bologna.
