Institute advocates peace in Potiskum, Nangere

The Institute for Peace and Conflicts Resolution (IPCR) has appealed to community leaders, youth and women’s associations in Potiskum town, the headquarters of Potiskum Local Government Area, and Sabon Garin Nangere, the headquarters of Nangere Local Government Area to embrace peace.

  The institute made the appeal at the Multipurpose Hall, FCE, Potiskum, and the Emir of Tikau Palace in Sabon Garin Nangere town, respectively.

  The representative of the Director-General Institute for Peace and Conflicts Resolution (IPCR), Paul Andrew Gwaza, who spoke at both events, pointed out that peace was key to speedy development.

  He however lamented: “Northeast generally has been a subject of attacks since 2009, the military forces have been trying greatly in the restoration of peace.”

  Besides, he was optimistic that peace would be resolved in the area soon going by the involvement of indigenes such as the House of Representatives member representing Nangere /Potiskum Federal Constituency, Ibrahim Umar.

  According to him, Umar decided to commit his Constituency project to the issues of insecurity, stressing, “This particular component has to do with his advocacy on traditional, community leaders with the idea of allowing them to play greater roles in the peace building process.”

  The lawmaker, who was at the event, however, thanked the participants for their attention and understanding while urging them to utilize the knowledge acquired in their daily affairs.

  The traditional leaders from Fika, Nangere and Pataskum Emirates applauded the initiative of the lawmaker in uniting the constituents.   One of the participants at the event, Musa Ali, urged people in the Constituency to respect the mechanisms of the management and prevention of conflicts put in place by IPCR.
