The rank of 23 players invited for the double-header encounter against Les Fauves of Central African Republic (CAR), has been further depleted by an injury to Genk strikers, Paul Onuachu.
Some key players such as Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo, Alex Iwobi and Henry Onyekuru had earlier missed out of the list because they are nursing various degrees of Injuries.
Despite that, Gernot Rohr , the coach of the team believes the squad invited is strong enough to beat the Central African side, when they meet at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos today.
According to Rohr, the quality of his team should give them an edge and ensure they consolidate on their leadership of the group.
“We have some injuries to key players. The team will still be able to do the job,” the coach said.
“We will do the work and prepare well.
“We are strong together and the quality in the team in the team will give us the result.”
Nigeria currently tops Group C with 6 points while CAR is bottom of the group with just a single point. The return fixture is billed for Douala, Cameroon on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the remaining two players being awaited in Eagle’s camp, Moses Simon and goalkeeper Maduka Okoye have joined the team.
