The voter cards are for those who registered in 2011.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the FCT, Godwin Kwanga, said the distribution of the cards will be followed by the registration of voters between August 20 and 25.

The cards will be distributed at the pooling units where people registered in 2011, and those not collected will be returned to the INEC offices in the six FCT area councils in the FCT where registrants can still collect them.

Those collecting the permanent cards have to present their temporary cards as a means of identification. No one will be allowed to collect a card through proxy.

Those who have lost their temporary cards can obtain the permanent ones after filling a form issued by the INEC staff on duty.

Kwanga said he will apply to INEC headquarters for extension of time if a lot of people fail to collect their cards by August 17.

Those who want to transfer their registration from one location to another are required to write an application to the REC through the electoral officer (EO) in their area council.

Kwanga assured that the INEC has learnt from the hitches of previous exercises and has been testing direct data capture (DDC) machines to ensure they are functioning properly.

The INEC has set up a publicity and awareness committee with membership drawn from the media, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jamatu Nasir Islam (JNI) and Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).

It will take the campaign to all the six FCT area councils.
