INEC arraigns Professor for alleged election fraud, remanded in prison

A professor of human kinetics at the University of Uyo, Professor Ignatius Uduk, has been remanded in prison for allegedly aiding and abetting election fraud.

A state high court in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, on Wednesday, December 9, remanded the professor at the Nigerian Correctional Service in Uyo.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) arraigned Uduk for election fraud during the 2019 general elections in the state.

A bench warrant had been issued on Uduk for failing to appear before the court by the state’s high court judge, Justice AE Achibong.

When Uduk appeared before the court today, December 9, the judge remanded him in the correctional facility till December 14, when the court will rule on his bail application.

Uduk is standing trial on a three-count charge which includes unlawful generation of election results and lying under oath.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
