The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Akwa Ibom has said that it has distributed over 1.5 million Permanent Voters Cards in the state.
“We have configured enough card readers and have enough substitutes for the election. We have also received all sensitive and non sensitive materials needed and they are currently warehoused at the Central Bank.” Okojie said.
The REC tasked the media on objective reporting during their coverage of the elections as their coverage would help to reassure the public of the transparency or otherwise of the conduct of the election by INEC.
“The fact of your being in the field at all, fosters in us the consciousness to do our job well and in the public the confidence that they have their eyes and ears there.
“Your observations and criticisms help us to sit up, correct our mistakes and be better at what we do.
“We expect that in doing your job, you will abide by the ethics and tenets of your profession. We do not want ypu to cover our mistakes and inadequacies but we insist that your reports must be true and be based on facts.” He said.
He also promised to ensure that all parties are equally treated and carried along in all the commission’s programmes in the area.
