The governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State which was conducted on Saturday, April 20, will be concluded today.

Announcement of election result, which was scheduled to begin at 7am today, was put on hold.

The primary election held in 203 wards across the state but violence was experienced in some wards of Akure, Okitipupa and Ilaje.

Some of the aspirants protested over non-availability of election materials.

A member of the Primary Election Committee who preferred not to be named said the election was inconclusive in some areas of Okitipupa and other parts of the state.

He said final collation of result would begin after the elections were concluded.

Journalists spent several hours at the Dome International Event Center, venue for the collation and announcement of the result.

Reports that trickled in yesterday indicated that the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was in early lead and appeared set to clinch the primaries.

The ruling party had announced that 171,922 members drawn from the 203 wards of the 18 local government areas of the state will take part in the direct primary election.

There are 16 aspirants in the election with four of them – Aiyedatiwa, Olusola Oke, Jimoh Ibrahim and Wale Akinterinwa – as the front runners.
