….Says APC is mischievous Political Party in Osun
A human rights group in Nigeria, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has warned the embattled Osun State governor, Mr. Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola and his party, the All Progressives Congress(APC) to stop politicizing the recent petition of the State High Court Judge, Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oloyede to the State House of Assembly, requsting for impeachment process against the State governor and his deputy over mismanagement of funds accrued to the State, saying that the ruling party in its call for resignation of Justice Oloyede was mischievous and the party should respect the independence of the Judicial arm of government where Justice Oloyede belongs in Nigeria democratic life.
The rights group also insisted that Justice Oloyede would not resign her position as the Judge of the State High court, maintaining that Judicial arm of government was not under executive arm but the independent organ of the government in a democratic setting, noting that the resigning proponent of the ruling party in the State, was wishful thinking of the messenger(APC),urged the APC to critically look at the message without minding the messenger.
According to CHRSJ:”We want to say here that All Progressives Congress(APC) as ruling party reacted to the Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oloyede’s petition against its government in Osun State in an enmity and political manner which shows that Governor Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola and APC are detesting criticisms in Osun politics and we believed that viable and formidable opposition is one the ingredients of survival of democracy in any political clime of the world. After all,Justice Oloyede has a right as a citizen of the country to comment on any issue bordering and affecting her environment”.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Centre’s Executive Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman, which a copy was made available to newsmen in Lagos yesterday, declared that Justice Oloyede has not committed any offence in expressing her opinion on certain issue of national importance as being stipulated in the amended 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that could warrant the call for her resignation from office as being advised by the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC).
Comrade Sulaiman who strongly condemned the resignation offer to the Justice Oloyede by the ruling party in the State, described APC’s position on the development as anti-democratic,anti-masses, evil, ungodly and unconstitutional which cannot stand the test of the time, urging APC in the State to stop calling the respected Jurist a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) as always being called members of the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice(CHRSJ).
CHRSJ Chief who recalled that when the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) was in power in the State, the same Justice Oloyede took the PDP government of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola to court for denying her a position in the bench and promoting the Junior officer ahead of
her,She approached the court of competent jurisdiction to seek redress as everything was now history and the then PDP government was not calling her a member of the then opposition Action Congress of Nigeria(ACN),advising the ruling party to stop naming a dog another
name because they wanted to hang it.
His words: It has become the antics of the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the country, particularly, in Osun State to politicize any independent opinion against Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola’s bad governance. The party and its allies have been calling our group(CHRSJ) all sort of names but we are not deterred in our resolute to liberate the good people of Osun State from the anti-developmental government of Aregbesola. We want to say
unequivocally that Mr. Rauf Aregbesola has destroyed the State beyond comprehension of the people now, due to the misappropriation of the funds accrued to the State and such funds are; SURE-P fund, Excess Crude Oil, Ecological fund,UBEC fund,Internally Generated Revenue(IGR),State and Local government allocations. Also,Federal Lawmakers Constituencies allowances, Workers Pension Contributory fund, Cooperative deduction loans and rebate from local government allocations accrued to the State from federation account.
“Mismanagement of these accrued funds by Osun State government ,thereby making the State not to be able to pay workers salaries and pension due for period of seven to eight months to the State workers and retirees respectively at wake of dwindling allocation orchestrated
by fall of oil price in the International market. There is need for concerned people of the State to ask Aregbesola how he spent all these funds and still plunged the State into debtor State. All
Progressives Congress(APC) leadership in the State should understand that Aregbesola’s government must accountable to the people and governance is beyond mere politicking but the operation of open door policy on the part of those entrusted with the representatives
democracy”.
