Imo State contingent numbering 200 athletes and 61 officials arrived Asaba, Delta State for National Youth Games.
The Team left Owerri with high hopes to take part in 18 sporting events which includes Chess, Scrabble, Ayo, Darts, Squash, Table Tennis, Para Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Boxing, Badminton, Wrestling, Judo, Basketball, Handball, Rugby and Hockey.
The Imo state commissioner for Youths, Sports and social development, Hon. Emeka Okoronkwo was optimistic that Imo Athletes will justify the trust by Imolites placed on them by winning medals at the games.
He pointed out that the team is in high spirit and the camp is lively because their welfare has been taken care of.
He further said that Imo state government has always made youth development a priority and this is why everything that needs to be done to ensure the optimum performance of Imo athletes should be put in place.
The DIrector of Sports, Imo Sports Commission, Sir Ferdinand Emeana said Team Imo is in Asaba to give a good representation of the zone.
He said they left for Asaba with young athletes and are certain would make Imo state proud.
“The team arrived for Asaba, Delta State with high hopes. We want to do well there,” Emeana said
