Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has advised the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to place itself above politics and work towards realizing the mandate for which it was established which is enhancing the welfare of the people of the Niger Delta area.

The governor gave the advice when he received the Ag MD/CEO of the commission, Mrs Ibim Semenitari, at the Government House, Umuahia.

According to him, a situation where state governments cannot make inputs to the happenings on the NDDC board is not palatable and called for collaboration between the commission and stakeholders in the region.

The governor, who stated that what affects one part of the Niger Delta affects the other, called for unity between the people of the area and commended the vision of the NDDC boss in going to the field to see things for herself.

The governor, who lamented the poor state of the Aba Port Harcourt federal road, as well as other roads such as the Obohia and Ohanko awarded by the NDDC in Aba, said that he was prepared to create a platform for collaboration with NDDC.

Ikpeazu commended the Ag MD of NDDC for starting well and encouraged her to come up with strategies that will yield positive results.

Seminitari had explained that she was on a region wide tour of the Niger Delta to acquaint herself with NDDC projects, disclosing that she will inspect projects of the commission in parts of the state including the Obohia and Ohanko road during the visit.

She lamented the poor state of NDDC projects in parts of the Niger Delta many of which are at different stages of abandonment and stressed that Abia especially Aba has a worthy place in NDDC scheme of things as a commercial nerve center in the country.
