Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has inaugurated the Governing council of the Abia State University, Uturu, with a charge to ensure that the institution occupies a leadership position among universities in Nigeria.

Inaugurating the council at the Government House, Umuahia, the governor said that ABSU was the pride of Abia State and commended the university authorities for the strides it has recorded with meager resources.

The governor, who recalled that ABSU has consistently taken the lead in law and the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba in ICT in the country, also disclosed that the state took the first position in West African Examination Council (WAEC), said that Abia has made positive statement in the country’s education and urged the university authorities to continue in that vein.

Ikpeazu directed the council to do a complete profiling of the students of the institution and to nip cultism in the bud, adding that they should be stringent in their admission policy as well as to commercialize research activities to raise funds for the university.

Responding on behalf of the other members of the council, the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Sen Adolf Wabara, thanked the governor for finding them fit to serve and promised not to let him down.

He however said that a lot was expected, noting that there was a huge gap between prospective university undergraduates who cannot find space in other universities in the country and urged them to try to provide space in the school for the teeming youths.
