Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has disbursed a total sum of N13.9 million to the residents of Ikare Akoko in Akoko North West as part payment of the compensation for the dualisation of the road in the town.
The compensation by Akeredolu was in fulfillment of his administration’s promise of compensating residents whose properties were affected by road expansion in the Northern Senatorial District of the state.
According to him, the compensation would be in phases as the governor commenced the first payment at the palace of Olukare in Ikare-Akoko.
Akeredolu, who was represented by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Taofiq Abdulsalam, at the occasion yesterday said that the first set of the people to receive cheques were the property owners between Oke Alabojuto and the Central Mosque, opposite Olukare’s palace.
He disclosed that approval had been given to the effect that adequate compensation be paid to all property owners along the road corridors to ensure that construction works started in full fledge.
He therefore advised recipients to utilise the money and be law-abiding so that the dualisation could be completed as
scheduled.
Besides, the Olukare of Ikare-Akoko, Oba Akadiri Momoh, had lauded the governor for fulfilling his promises to the people, saying that the governor’s action has shown that he is pro-people government.
The monarch, however, appealed to the people whose properties had been marked for demolition to cooperate with the state government and the contractors, as the construction works continued.
The Chairman of Akoko North-East Local Government Area, Mr. Rafiu Eniayewu, said that the people of Ikare would remember Akeredolu for dualisation of the township road of Ikare and other many works he has done in the town.
