IGP warns policemen against human rights abuses

IGP Solowon Arase

Inspector general of Police (IGP), Mr. Solomon Arase, has advised officers and men of the police to exhibit professional conduct and respect the rights of Nigerians in the discharge of their constitutional duties.

The IGP gave the advice yesterday in Umuahia during the inauguration of Sir Mike Mbama Okiro’s 100 units housing scheme consisting of two bedroom flats, constructed under the post-retirement housing scheme of the IGP for policemen, warned that henceforth, the force would not entertain cases of human rights abuses.

According to Arase, “I have actualised my dream, especially for the inspectors and the rank and file, have given them all, have promoted them and have given them houses and have given their children scholarship. As professional officers they must respect the rights of Nigerians henceforth the force will not entertain cases of human rights abuses.

“This landmark event symbolised the completion of efforts of the past leadership to address the fundamental challenges that face officers and men in providing quality and affordable houses for themselves and immediate families; it’s a step towards advancing the welfare of the police with the inspectorate and rank and file as the major focus.”

Arase said the housing scheme was named after the former IGP, Mike Okiro, because of his invaluable contributions to the force when he was in service, adding that; “The force was able to reclaim its lost glory. He recruited and ensured quality training of officers and as well advanced the welfare of the officers and men of the force and he ensured disciple as the cardinal focus of the force.”
